| Electrophysiological treatment of cardiac arrhythmia | In terms of electrophysiological studies and Radiofrequency catheter ablation for cardiac arrhythmia, in addition to traditional electro-coagulation for Supraventricular tachycardia（SVT）, our hospital has successfully completed atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, ventricular premature contraction, and ventricular tachycardia 3D stereotactic radiofrequency ablation. Our hospital is also the only hospital in Tainan that can perform 3D stereotactic catheter ablation. Our hospital will also perform cryoablation for atrial fibrillation in the future, and it is hoped that it will develop into the leading cardiac arrhythmia treatment center in Greater Yunlin, Chiayi, and Tainan. In terms of implantable cardiac devices, our hospital has proficient technology, including permanent cardiac pacemaker, Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy (CRT), and the placement of Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD). More than 200 operations are performed in this hospital every year, and the success rate is close to 100%. In the future, laser lead extraction technology will be developed to provide more complete treatment measures for implantable cardiac devices. |

Heart Failure and Heart Transplant Center |
Heart failure has become an important health issue. In addition to medical treatment, heart transplantation also provides solutions for patients with end-stage heart failure. In order to serve patients in the South, National Cheng Kung University Hospital has invested a lot of mental resources to develop care for heart failure and heart transplantation. In addition to the successful completion of the first heart transplantation in 2004, more than 50 patients have undergone heart transplantation operations. Our hospital has the highest survival rate of heart transplants in Taiwan. In terms of heart failure care, National Cheng Kung University Hospital has established a special heart failure clinic and a heart failure center, emphasizing cross-disciplinary team medical care, complete heart failure drugs, 24-hour on-call Extra-Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) team and intensive care team, proficient in artificial heart technology, and cultivate preventive medicine and health check-up to construct an integrated cardiac medical (cardiology) and cardiac surgery ward. Taking into account comprehensiveness and specialization, the cardiac medical (cardiology) and cardiac surgery team and professional nursing staff are responsible for the care of patients with heart failure, and the nursing station, ECG monitoring system, is provided to give protection at the level as intensive care unit. To attach importance to cardiac rehabilitation, and cooperate with the Rehabilitation Department to set up cardiac rehabilitation equipment in the ward, we also set up a heart failure patient association. In addition to regular health education and patient activities, it also provides emergency contact and consultation methods for patients with severe heart failure in anticipation of bringing the most comprehensive protection for patients with heart failure. | |

Pulmonary hypertension |
Upholding the social responsibilities to cure the urgent, severe, complicated, and rare diseases, we have integrated medical resources across departments, including cardiovascular department, thoracic medicine department, intensive care unit, pharmacy department, nutrition department, radiology department, pediatric cardiology department, rheumatology department, lung transplantation team, and Extra-Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) team of cardiovascular surgery department.From health education to urgent and severe disease treatment, we have established the most complete pulmonary hypertension medical team in Taiwan.In addition to providing patient consultation mailbox and telephone, a website and APP are also set up to provide appropriate care to more patients in need from diversified approaches. This ensures smooth two-way communication. To continue to strengthen the quality of the team and the depth and breadth of the quality of care, our team members (Dr. Xu Zhixin, Head Nurse Wu Jiazhen) have completed full training at University of Chicago Pulmonary Hypertension Care Center and the Bologna University (ltaly), and maintained close work relationships with many domestic and foreign Pulmonary Hypertension Care Centers. We have established a special outpatient service for pulmonary hypertension anda referral mechanism for pulmonary hypertension. We have participated in Taiwan’s pulmonary hypertension registration plan and write clinical guidelines, and become one of new drug clinical trial global centers for pulmonary hypertension. Not only our focus is on caring for patients with primary pulmonary hypertension, but also we have actively participated in the cross-disciplinary team care of patients with secondary pulmonary hypertension. We also have worked with the rheumatology departmentto take care of patients with pulmonary hypertension. We have cooperated with the Infectious Disease department to take care of patients with pulmonary hypertension caused by HIV. We have actively worked with the pediatric cardiology department to treat patients with pulmonary hypertension related to congenital heart defect(CHD).We have established a year-round standby mechanism to help save the lives of critically ill patients at the first time, so that the survival rate of patients with pulmonary hypertension can compete with that of European and American pulmonary hypertension centers (from 1995 to the end of 2004, the one-year survival rate was 87%, The three-year survival rate is 82% and the five-year survival rate is 81%.). We have established a complete referral mechanism with other medical institutions in in Greater Yunlin, Chiayi, and Tainan, and have cooperated with other medical institutions to save patients’ lives on many occasions. | |
